Over 15 years ago my husband and I were building our house ourselves and we had a lot of concrete blocks to fill - a bucket at a time. At the end of the day I'd be left with a handful of concrete and I'd roll it into a 'blob rock'.
'Hmmmm', I thought. 'I should make something out of this concrete.'

So I went online and found some little gnome moulds and started using them for the leftover cement. I painted them up and gave them to my family at Christmas.
These were well received so I experimented with different concrete / cement blends and different paint finishes to make strong, weatherproof gnomes. All my experiments are lazing around my garden. I call them "Gnome-Test Dummies".

As I perfected my gnomes I started buying other moulds, looking for quirky or funny gnomes, happy ones, cute ones. I've kept them under about 30cm / 10kg so they can be mailed throughout Australia.

There's a lot that goes into making a gnome from scratch. Casting, curing, cleaning, filling, sanding... and then I get to the painting. I take them indoors to my gnome-painting table, put a movie on the computer, get a coffee and relax painting all the colours on. I love making the gnomes and hope you love them too!
